Cape Maclear

Average: 5 (1 vote)

A traditional stop, Cape Maclear is the best known of all the lakefront settlements. It is a fishing village of about 10,000. The fishermen live in the center of the town, while either end of the village caters to tourists. Clear water, sandy beaches, lots of fish!

There are a few things to do other than beaching - snorkel, diving, hiking, kayaking, boating to nearby islands. You can arrange to have a BBQ organized for you on the beach. As always, get clear on price and expectations before any agreement. You will be asked for more money later for an unlimited number of excuses. Just say "NO"! "Beach Boys" here like in any beach area will try to sell you wood carvings, jewelry and paintings. If you like something, negotiate. Remember this stuff is easy to find anywhere, it is not made by them or their brother or cousin as they always claim.

Many lodges on the beach. Look at the Hotel/Lodge section for details.
