NEWS FROM CAPE MACLEAR

We are opening our site within the next couple of weeks, which will offer good tented accommodation and facilities for people with their own camping equipment. Our tents range from single tents, double, family type, (enough space for 4-6 people) and dorm tent accommodation. All our tents will have beds, mattress, pillows & sheets. We will have internet access, a small shop, solar heating for constant hot water, solar power where possible for lighting and a large braai area on the beach. Self catering visitors are more than welcome but we will offer food for our visitors who just want a lazy, peaceful stay.

We have our own boats:- a standard 19ft lake boat, and a 25ft lake boat for hire for trips to the islands, Otter point, sunset cruises and snorkelling trips. We have snorkelling and fishing rods for hire. We also have 2 catamarans for hire and a speedboat for skiing, wake and knee boarding and tubing. We also do a lake shuttle service from Cape Maclear/Monkey Bay and Senga Bay.

We not only welcome tourists to Malawi but we also welcome people living and working in Malawi who want to spend a weekend on the lake. Our prices will be very reasonable.

Now that the holiday season

Now that the holiday season has started again, the beach boys and 'tour guides' of the village are coming out of their shells and harassing tourist coming to Cape Maclear. They gather at the turn-off into the village and offer to 'guide' you to your lodge, offer you boat rides to the islands and other services during your stay. ALL LODGES ARE WELL SIGNPOSTED AND YOU DO NOT REALLY NEED THEIR ASSISTANCE. Also do not say words like 'maybe', 'perhaps', 'might do' and other similar words as these guides translate this a 'YES' and will harass you during your stay at Cape Maclear. Malambe Camp and all the other lodges can arrange these trips and tours for you without the hassle on the roadside. Even walking along the beach you maybe approached and offered boat trips, curios etc. Be careful as you might be ripped off. Check with the lodge where you are staying for information, and fair prices of activities that Cape maclear has to offer. If you like to haggle over bargains, please do but be careful.
